In a picturesque position on the river Sabato, derives its name from the Latin "agellus" meaning small field, and from the river which a legend says was named after Sabatio, son of Clus, grandson to Cam and great-grandson to Noah.

HISTORY: In its territory there are ruins of the town of the Samnites of Irpinia, called Sabatini, that another legend says descended from exiles of the Trojan war. Certainly it was inhabited since pre-historic times for the fertility of the land and abundance of waters. The town is mentioned in documents in 1045, among the possessions of Rodolferio. Later on, it became part of the feifdom of Atripalda.
