The Locality: Avellino is situated over the green valley crossed by the Sabato river and surrounded by the Pertenio, Avella and Picentini mountains. Today it is mostly a modern town because of the massive reconstructions after the frequent earthquakes. The chestnuts and nuts factories are of great importance as well as the wineries producing the famous Fiano di Avellino, Aglianico, Greco di Tufo and Taurasi wines. The beauty of the nature and the many archeological and cultural sites attract many tourists to the area.

HISTORY: Founded by the Irpinians during the 6th century BC, was conquered by the Lombards in 571 AD; at that time it was transferred on the top of a tuff hill easier to defend than the place occupied by the Roman town of Abellinum. Only after the second world war Avellino started its industrial and agricultural development.
