Baiano, Campania, ItalyBaiano is an agricultural, commercial and industrial centre, rising at the foot of the Partenio Mountain. Its name derives from praedium Vallejanum (Villa of Valleo) or from praedium Badianum (Villa of Badio), then transformed into Vallejanum, Bajetaum and Baianum. During the civil war the village was conquered by Silla and assigned to the 47th Roman Legion (82 B.C.),
In 79 BC it was sacked by Spartaco's soldiers. After the Fall of the Roman Empire, Baiano suffered several barbaric invasions. In 589 AD it become part of the Duchy of Benevento while in 1075 it joined the Norman Princedom. It was fiefdom of the Orsini Family in 1605 and then belonged to the Baron of Avella, Giovanni Andrea Doria. The territory of Baiano become autonomous at the beginning of the 18th century. Later was head of a district and in 1860 was added to the Irpina Province.
