Casalbore

Province of Avellino, Region Campania, Italy

Casalbore rises on the top of a hill in the Miseno Valley. The town was possibly founded in the 2nd century AD, under Emperor Traianus, then it was conquered by the Goths and in 571 AD included in the Lombard Dukedom.

In 1020 the Normans arrived in Italy and in 1100 Giordano became lord of the town to pass the fiefdom to Ruggiero, who included Casalbore in the Kingdom of Sicily. In 1240 the town depended directly from Frederick II as an independent, autonomous municipality. After the Anjou domination many lords succeeded in power: the Mansella, the French Shabran family and during the 15th century the great Sforza. In 1497 Casalbore becomes property of the Neapolitan Caracciolos, who were to keep it until the late 18th century.
