Castelfranci

Province of Avellino, Region Campania, Italy

Castelfranci rises on the top of a majestic hill, along the banks of the Calore river and surrounded by oaks and fir-trees. There are two hypothesis about the origin of its name. The first derives it from "castrum francorum", meaning French Fortress, due to the presence of the Franks in the area where the first medieval center was built. According to other opinions the town took its name from the Delli Franci family.
