Castelvetere sul Calore

Province of Avellino, Region Campania, Italy

Tracks of Roman rural settlements were found in Civitella. The name of the town derives from Castellum Vetus, meaning Old Castle. Later "Sul Calore" was added for its position along the Calore river. The town developed around the castle built by the Lombard Lords. Along the centuries many feudal families followed one another, among them the Filangieri, the Caracciolo, the Gesualdo, the Ludovisi; the last lords were the De Beaumont family.
