Guardia dei Lombardi is located on a high hill from where it is possible to enjoy a wide view of the valley of the Ofanto river and the volcanic territory of the Ansando valley, hit by many earthquakes, but so beautiful among the forests of chestnut trees and the vineyards producing some of the best wines in Italy.

HISTORY: The town was built around an ancient fortress and its name can be found in a document of the eleventh century by a Deacon from Cassino who wrote about Pope Leone XV that travelled from Cassino to Melfi in the year 1054.
