Montemarano

Province of Avellino, Region Campania, Italy

The existence of the town is documented since the 11th century. During the Norman time the center was attacked by Ruggiero and completely destroyed to become later fiefdom of Raona of Fragneto. Other important feudal lords were the Caracciolo, the Della Leonessa and the Della Marra. The most important event is the famous Montemarano Carnival with its known tarantella montemaranese, an ancient tradition of the place. The economy depends on agriculture with wonderful vineyards that produce excellent wine grapes.
