Montoro Superiore

Province of Avellino, Region Campania, Italy

Ancient ruins have been found in this territory. In Roman times it was a colony of Abellinum (todays Atripalda). The first mention of this center can be found in the Cavanese Codex where the locality was known as Troclati. Under the Lombards, the centre was included in the Dukedom of Benevento. Some of the feudal lords of the place were the Della Ratta, Zurlo, Colonna and De Capua families. Patriots Nicola Pepe and Vincenzo Galiani were born here.
