Quindici

Province of Avellino, Region Campania, Italy

Situated in the green Lauro Valley, on the slopes of Pizzo d'Alvano, surrounded by very fertile lands, where grapes and very good olives are produced. Agriculture is the main occupation of the local population.

There is a lot of information about the origin of Quindici. Archeological remains testify that the area was populated from very ancient times. According to the legend, the town was founded by the Roman Decius Quintus or by fifteen bandits, but there is no documentation to support these theories. Most of the researchers maintain that the town was founded by the Romans after conquering the area inhabited by the Samnites. The most splendid period of Quindici's history was during the Renaissance when twenty churches were built. It is known that Quindici, along the centuries, gave the people of Amalfi the timberwood to build their ships.
