Salza Irpina

Province of Avellino, Region Campania, Italy

Ancient village of Roman origin, as proven by numerous archaelogical finds. It seems that its name comes from the Latin "salsus", that is to say "salty", with reference to a nearby spring of salty waters from which salt was extracted in ancient times. The village keeps its medieval structure. The most famous feudal lords of the place were the Caracciolo and the Cattaneo family from Sannicandro.
