Even though the town's origin is medieval and later it was a fiefdom of various families such as the Del Balzo, Orsini di Nicola, and Lancellotti, many Roman ruins have been found, like a roman villa of the first century AD with baths and a mosaic floor. In the area of Pantanelli and Fraconia two roman houses were found: in one there is a tuff cave with early Christian graffiti. More studies will probably allow to reconstruct the ancient history of the place, which must have been a settlement of importance in Roman times.

  • The church of the Assunta
  • The church of the Madonna of the Rosary (1700).
  • The convent of S. Giovanni in Palco (1300). The cloister is painted with scenes on the life of S. Francis of Assisi and in the refectory frescoes of the last supper. From all over the valley the high bell tower of the convent can be admired.
