Tufo

Province of Avellino, Region Campania, Italy

The origins of the place date back to Lombard times; later on it was a fiefdom of Count Ariano. There are imposing industrial ruins of sulfur mines. Sulfur was in great demand since it was used in agriculture against parasites. Today this town is a flourishing agricultural center where tourists can go horse riding and practice many other sports. Tufo is very famous in Italy and abroad for the Greco di Tufo, a DOC white wine of the highest quality.
