The Locality: Only 27 km from Caserta Alvignano is situated along the slopes of the Trebulani Mountains, belonging to the imposing Montemaggiore chain. The town can be reached easily exiting the autostrada Rome-Naples at Caianello or Caserta nord.

History
The name comes from Albinianum, a Roman town founded in honor of Marcus Aulius Albinus in the 2nd century AD. Originally a Samnite center called Compulteria became later a roman municipium, an important trade center thanks to its strategic position and was furtherly enriched and embellished with monuments and public buildings by emperor Hadrian. Compulteria was destroyed by the Saracens between the 9th and 10th centuries, and a little distance away a new settlement, Alvignano, rose under the Normans.
During the second world war Alvignano was a German headquarters.

EVENTS
On the first Sunday in July there is the patron feast in honor of Saint Ferdinand of Aragon, Bishop of Caiazzo, patron of Alvignano and Dragoni.
