The name of the comune, Casamicciola, was changed to Casamicciola Terme in 1956. The economy, as for the whole island, was based on agriculture and fishing, until since the early 20th century artists, poets and actors first, then a wider community of tourists, started to discover this hidden jewel between the sky and the deep blue sea, with its rich Mediterranean vegetation and the many thermal water springs. the town has a commercial harbor for ships and ferries to Naples and Pozzuoli as well as a smaller touris port for private boats and yachts.

HISTORY: The first human settlements on the Ischia island date back to the 8th century BC when the Greeks founded the colony of Pithecusae (today Lacco Ameno), which soon became an important commercial center for the Etruscans, the Phoenicians and the Egyptians who came to purchase articrafts in ceramics, bronze, iron made on the island. The island was later under the control of the Romans, who used the island as a vacation and spa resort. In the Middle Ages Ischia was attacked by the Goths, the Lombards and the Normans and finally conquered by the Swabians. Since antiquity the island was hit several times by the eruption of the Epomeo, the last eruption being in 1301.

On July 28, 1883 Shocks triggered by former volcano Epomeo destroyed 1,200 houses at Casamicciola claiming about 2,000 victims, a large part of the population (4217 imhabitants were recorded in the 1881 census).
