Riccione (RN)Emilia Romagna, Italy
Among the main destinations of summer tourism on the Adriatic Riviera, it is one of the best known resorts in Northern Italy.
It is a favourite attraction for young people, thanks to the number and variety of discos on the Riviera, and for families with children, who love its theme parks, aquarium and aquaparks. The sea-front is a long shaded boulevard, sided by a bicycle lane.

History
Archeological findings show that the area was inhabited in the 2nd century BC, and the settlements in Roman times was along the via Flaminia, near Ariminum, one of the main Roman towns in Northern Italy. In 1260 AD the town was ruled by a Florentine family, the Agolanti, and the ruins of their castle are still visible on the hills behind Riccione.
Tourist development began in the late 19th century, and also Benito Mussolini in 1934 bought a villa here, where he spent his holidays with the family for 10 years. In the 1930's there were already over 80 hotels, and after WW2 the resort became a favorite summer destination of VIP's as soccer champion Pelè, Mina, Ugo Tognazzi, Vittorio De Sica, Gina Lollobrigida and more. |
