Tango delle Capinere

The song was composed in 1928 by Cesare Andrea Bixio, and the words written by Cherubini.

In Paris the tango was a major success, was translated into French twice, first by Robert Marino as "Tango des fauvettes" changing Arizona to Texas, then by Henri Varna and De Lima as "Dans les bouges de la nuit" and became a hit of the legendary Mistinguett. In the video below the song is performed by Luciano Tajoli.

Laggiù, nell'Arizona
terra di sogni e di chimère
se una chitarra suona
cantano mille capinere
Over there, in Arizona
land of dreams and chimeras
if a guitar plays
a thousand warblers sing

Hanno la chioma bruna,
hanno la febbre in cor,
chi va a cercar fortuna
vi troverà l'amor.
They have dark hair,
have a fever in their hearts,
who goes to seek his fortune
he will find love.

A mezzanotte va
la ronda del piacere
e nell'oscurità
ognuno vuol godere.
At midnight goes
the patrol of pleasure
and in the darkness
everyone wants to enjoy.

Son baci di passion,
l'amor non sa tacere
E questa la canzon
di mille capinere!
They're kisses of passion,
love annot be silent
And this is the song
of a thousand warblers!

Il bandolero stanco
scende la sierra misteriosa;
sul suo cavallo bianco
spicca la vampa di una rosa
The tired bandolero
comes down the mysterious sierra;
on his white horse
stands out the blaze of a rose

Quel fior di primavera
vuol dire fedeltà
e alla sua capinera
egli lo porterà...
That spring flower
means fidelity
and to his warble
he will take it...

E chi ritornerà
lasciando le miniere
forse riporterà
dell'oro in un forziere;
And who returns
leaving mines
perhaps will bring
Gold in a chest;

ma il cuore lascerà
tra mille capinere!
but his heart he will leave
among a thousand warblers!
