The roof of San VitoFountain of 99 Spouts in L'AquilaL'Aquila (AQ), Abruzzo, ItalyDescription: The roof inside the church of San Vito is made of wooden beams (which are renovated) supporting red bricks which might have been original, but even if belonging to a later period than the Fountain show interesting symbolic connections to it. |
|
The roof is made of bricks, on which 2 different symbols are painted: a white cross - totally similar to the 2 crosses that appearone in the inscription and one in a single stone on the 7th row of the Fountain - and a "sun" with 7 rays. The "sun" at top of the inscription in the Fountain inscribes a cross, and that on the 7th row of the Fountain another similar cross is carved.
