Landmarks in Molise

The region has been since immemorial times a transit area for shepherds in their seasonal migrations and travellers to Apulia and the southern ports of Bari, Brindisi and Taranto. On the key strategic points, on top of high mountains, huge castles as Cerro, walled citadels, fortresses, sighting towers along the coast to alert of the ever too frequent Saracen raids, rise as sentinels against the skyline of an almost uncontaminated landscape.
