The Province of Imperia includes the territory of the magnificent "Riviera dei Fiori", and was one of the new provinces established in the 1920's under the Fascist regime. The original capital of the province was Porto Maurizio, which in 1923 joined Oneglia and the new town was renamed after the Impero stream, that used to divide them, as Imperia.
