The southernmost province in Marches, it is bordered to the north by the newly established province of Fermo (which includes 40 communes previously included in the province of Ascoli Piceno), by the Adriatic sea to the east, the Abruzzi and the Latium regions to the south, the Umbria region to the south-west and, for a small area, the province of Macerata to the north-west.
