The medieval borough became a Universitas (independent commune) in 1248 from the union of the three castles of Leone, Marrabbione and Agello. In the following centuries it came under the rule of the Malatesta, the Sforza and finally the Church State. What to see : The medieval center, very well preserved with its original architecture, which still has ancient walls, towers and gates, as the Porta di San Giacomo and the Torrione del Podestà (1368) the 14th-century Church of Sant'Agostino, where the Blessed Antonio is buried, with a facade and bell tower in the Gothic-Venetian style The Romanesque-gothic church of San Francesco, where a 12th-century wooden crucifix is preserved. 8 km to the north east the Romanesque Abbey of Saints Ruffino and Vitale, with 3 naves and apses, and a beautiful crypt.
