The small town is situated in the upper valley of the Tenna river, in a natural amphitheatre dominated by the Sibillini mountains, and is a starting point for trekking itineraries into this impressive natural area, characterised by giant oaks, leech trees, and at higher altitudes chestnut trees, evergreen vegetation and pastures. Ancient traditions in furniture making are still alive here, as well as an authentic cuisine based on mushrooms, black and white truffle, honey, cheese, wine.

History: The area was inhabited since pre-Roman times by populations of Picenian stock, and later the Romans established here a settlement. The medieval borough became a Universitas (independent commune) in 1248 from the union of the three castles of Leone, Marrabbione and Agello. In the following centuries it came under the rule of the Malatesta, the Sforza and finally the Church State. Map of Amandola:
