HISTORY:

Archelogical findings show that the place was inhabited since very early times. During the Middle Ages, there was a castle of the Da Varano family of Camerino, built in defence of the flour mills that supplied a large territory with cereals.

WHAT TO SEE:

  • the parish church of San Biagio, which preserves a 14th-century wooden statue of St Sebastian;
  • the 16th-century, octagonal church of Santa Maria di Varano del secolo XVI, preserving inside frescoes by Andrea De Magistris;
  • in Coda di Muccia the Hermitage of Blessed Rizerio, a disciple and personal confessor of St. Francis of Assisi;
  • the Sanctuary of Madonna di Col de' Venti, which preserves a 14th-century painting of the Virgin with Child;
  • the Villa della Maddalena, surrounded by a fine park, built in the 17th century as the residence of Cardinal Giori.
