Campobasso in Molise

Riccia

Province of Campobasso, Region Molise, Italy

The Locality: Archeological findings in the territory show the presence of a Samnite settlement followed then by the establishment of a Roman colony. After the dark period of the Middle Ages, Riccia was always a fiefdom of the de Capua family. A famous figure in the history of the place was Costanza di Chiaromonte, wife of king Ladislaw of Durazzo, who was rejected by her husband in 1392 and taken as wife by Andrea de Capua, from which union two sons were born. The unfortunate queen's sepulchre is in the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
