Roccavivara, Province Campobasso, Molise, Italy

Archeological findings of remains of Roman villas in the area called San Fabiano and near the church of Santa Maria di Canneto demonstrate the existence of a flourishing Roman colony since late Republican times (1st century BC) that was later enlarged in the period of the Roman Empire. In the Middle Ages and exactly in 1268 Gaultiero of Vollers was the lord of Roccavivara, then its fiefdom passed to Bertrando of the Cantelmo family, who kept the fiefdom until 1442, to be followed by the Di Sangro, Carafa and finally the Coppola family.
