In the Middle Ages the Evoli family, one of the most prominent families in the region, had their center here. In the 16th century the fiefdom passed to the Di Capua and later to the Francone. A remarkable emigration took place in the 19th century to Rome, where the citizens of Salcito worked as carriage drivers. Nowadays many of them drive taxis, and on the days of the patron San Basilio Magno they come to have their taxicabs blessed in the village square, while in the hamlet called Pietraromana a procession is held with a blessing of the fields.
