Filignano, Province Isernia, Molise, Italy

The little town of Filignano is first recorded in a document of 962 AD included in the "Chronicon Volturnese" with the spelling Fonduliano, later to be changed into Fondemano. The present name appears in the 16th century when Girolamo Pellegrino gives this territory as dowry to his daughter Margherita. Later on Filignano passed from the lordship of the Montaquila to the noble Caracciolo family, the last to rule on it up to the abolition of the feudal system. In the year 1861 it passed from the Province called Terra di Lavoro to the then Province of Molise (belonging to the Abruzzi region). It was also recently included in the National Park of Abruzzo, Molise and Lazio.
