The Locality: Situated along an uncontaminated coastline full of prehistoric caves, at the outmost end of the Salento peninsula, the town rises on a plateau and is a seaside and spa resort, thanks to iodine-sulphur waters in the thermal springs of 4 grottos, Gattulla, Fedida, Solfurea, and Solfatara, all connected to the sea, with waters of different temperatures and compositions. It is included in the newly-established Natural Park Costa Otranto - Santa Maria di Leuca e Bosco di Tricase.

WHAT TO SEE
  • The Grotta Romanelli, 7 km to the south near the Frazione Castro presently closed to the public, with important Paleolithic graffiti
  • The Zinzulusa Grotto, among the most interesting sea grottos in Apulia, rich of Paleolithic history and unique ipogean fauna, 150mt long, with the famous "Corridoio delle Meraviglie" (Corridor of Wonders) and the wide chamber called "Duomo"
