With a surface area of 224,83 square km Dorgali is among the largest municipalities in Sardinia, and the center of Barbagia, one of the most ancient inhabited sites in Europe. It is situated on a crest of Supramonte and includes in its jurisdiction the renowned sea resort of Cala Gonone, on the Orosei Gulf. The economy is based on tourism and crafs, such as goldsmithery - for the precious gold filigree - ceramics, leather products and the local bread called pane carasau (in Italian: carta musica). |
