Locality: With a surface area of 224,83 square km Dorgali is among the largest municipalities in Sardinia, and the center of Barbagia, one of the most ancient inhabited sites in Europe. It is situated on a crest of Supramonte and includes in its jurisdiction the renowned sea resort of Cala Gonone, on the Orosei Gulf. The economy is based on tourism and crafs, such as goldsmithery - for the precious gold filigree - ceramics, leather products and the local bread called pane carasau (in Italian: carta musica).

• Many archeological sites, such as the Nuragic village of Tiscali, a number of menhirs and dolmens, as well as the more recent domus de janas
• The magnificent beaches around small bays at Cala Gonone, many of which can be reached by boat or following pathways in the Mediterranean forest of Altopiano di Golgo
• The Bue Marino Grotto, that took its name from the Mediterranean Monk Seal (locally called Bue Marino), the world's rarest pinniped that unfortunately has in the last decades abandoned this area, disturbed by the great numbers of tourists.
