Malfa is one of the 3 communes on the isle of Salina, in the Lipari group, divided from the isle of Lipary by a 4km-long channel. The island is formed by two mountains joining in the Valdichiesa valley, which gives it the impression from the sea of being formed of two separate islands: that is why the Greeks called it "Dydime" (=twin island). The highest top is the Fossa delle Felci, 963m a.s.l., which is also the highest summit of the Lipari group. The island is cultivated in terraces, and renowned for the production of capers and the special malvasia grapes.
Malfa is the largest of the three communes (the other two being Santa Marina and Leni) and includes the frazione of Pollara, to the northwest, from where Punta Perciatu and Baia can be reached, among the most beautiful spots in the whole Mediterranean.
