The Province of Arezzo has a surface area of 3,235 sq km, with a total population of about 325,000 inhabitants. It is administratively divided into 39 Municipalities. The province, one of the inner areas of Tuscany, is celebrated for the its rich Etruscan history, the artistic presence of a number of great Renaissance painters such as Piero della Francesca, art and history like uncontaminated gems hidden within the many protected areas along the Arno valleys, Valdarno, the Arezzo and Casentino valleys, the Valtiberina and the valleys of the Marecchia and Foglia rivers, fine events like the Giostra del Saracino, held since the 13th century on 17 June.
